Interview with photographer David X Prutting about his new show entitled “Italy in 8”. This photo exhibition in the Lobby of the Roger Smith Hotel will be up from July 15 to October 15.
My trip to Italy gave me a new perspective in which I will my continue to practice in my future photographic adventures/travels: Try not to be rushed, anxious or frustrated by what your missing out on; and to find a dimension of your surroundings that you can relate to and exist in easily, allow moments of solitude to become unifying experiences with the people or places you are interacting with.
Sometimes on a vacation you can be in such a rush to take photos of everything that you neglect to stop and observe the subtle things that are always around you. My experience in Italy taught me to appreciate these more mundane moments: whether it was a field I drove by out the window of the car, an interesting wall with incredible details and vivid textures, a vegetable stand with a wonderful rustic feel, the soft muted colors of a building on the river at dusk, the un-measured movement of people and animals in their environment, a lonely bench in front of a graphic wall that gave me a nostalgic feeling, a lonely Vespa scooter keeping a perfect composition parked outside a window in Siena, or the lights outside the Coliseum at night , (when even though I had been late and missed a chance to view its inside, it still lent me its radiance and magnitude from afar).
